An elegant, painted Italian settee, the back open and slightly "en goldole" as it leaves the arms.  Each back splat with a Rod of Hermes, or caduceus, centered on a palmette on the top rail. The settee arms are open and the arm supports are finely carved in the form of a gilded sea creature, with the arms ending in a lion mask.  The front legs are straight, turned and tapered and sheathed with water leaves, the back legs splayed.

This settee is in very good condition, with the gilded bronze mounts and gilding oxidized, but easily cleaned if desired.  The paint is original.  The frame is solid.
