An early 19th century French gouache on paper, likely hand blocked and painted, depicting the mythological story of Amalthea, foster-mother of Zeus. The composition of classically robed figures is "en grisaille" and surrounded with an egg-and-dart border in tones of yellow and ochre, meant to resemble a gilded frame.
